Young girl receiving nutritious food through PRF nutrition program

From Hunger to Hope: Little Grace's Journey

Rukiga District•Nutrition & Orphan Care Program

When three-year-old Grace first came to PRF's attention, she weighed barely 8 kilograms—far below the healthy weight for her age. Orphaned at just 18 months old, she was being cared for by her elderly grandmother who struggled to provide even one meal a day. Grace was listless, rarely smiled, and showed signs of severe malnutrition that threatened her development and very survival.

Today, Grace is a different child. Through PRF's comprehensive nutrition program, she receives three balanced meals daily, including protein-rich foods, fresh vegetables, and fortified porridge. Her weight has increased to a healthy 13 kilograms, her eyes are bright, and her infectious smile lights up every room she enters. The piece of bread in her hand—something so simple, yet so precious—represents security, nourishment, and the promise of a future she almost didn't have.

But Grace's transformation goes beyond physical health. She now attends PRF's early childhood development center, where she's learning, playing, and forming friendships with other children. Her grandmother, relieved of the impossible burden of providing alone, participates in PRF's Village Savings and Loan Association, slowly building financial stability for their small family. The support extends to healthcare, with regular check-ups ensuring Grace continues to thrive.

"When I see Grace running and playing with other children, when I hear her laugh, I thank God for PRF. They didn't just feed my granddaughter—they gave her life back. Now she has a chance to grow up strong, to go to school, to become whoever she wants to be. This is what hope looks like."

— Grandmother Esther, Grace's Guardian

Grace is one of 127 severely malnourished children PRF has rescued and rehabilitated over the past two years. Each child receives individualized nutrition plans, regular health monitoring, and family support to ensure sustainable recovery. The program doesn't just treat symptoms—it addresses root causes by supporting caregivers with income-generating activities, agricultural training, and community education about child nutrition.

Your support can transform more lives like Grace's. For just $30 per month, you can provide a malnourished child with daily nutritious meals, healthcare, and early education. Every child deserves the chance to thrive—will you help us reach more children like Grace?
